About this item

This stunning sideboard originates from Jilin province in northeast China, circa 1850 and is beautifully finished in palettes of reds, greens, oranges and blues - once vibrant colours but over time they have softened to more muted tones. The colours used are similar to those seen on furniture from Mongolia, which neighbours Jilin to the west.

Boasting unusual original paintings on the doors, depicting boats in and around a walled harbour set with pagodas, with a village in the background approached by a long bridge from the right hand side. The delightful paintings are framed by a red boarder, decorated with floral designs and further flower decorations can be found on the four upper drawers.

Produced in a simple design, however given an enhanced, elegant look with the additional carved spandrels at each side that taper down to the feet from the extended top.

A wonderful statement piece and conversation starter for any living area and plenty of useful storage space inside with a removable shelf within each compartment.
