About this item

Very rare, original open Biedermeier Etagere / Shelf / Cupboard from Vienna, Austria around 1830.

Excellently restored and hand-polished with shellac (French Polish).
The Etagere has five plates/compartments with each made of a superb walnut veneer. The columns and the leg are made of walnut solid wood of a beautiful grain.
The support strips for the plates, the legs and the upper side of the graded bottom have been ebonized.

Being polished on all four side, it can greatly be placed freestanding in the room.

Etageres from the early Biedermeier time have been used in only a few rooms like the living room to show off beautiful objects. Therefore they have not been produced as much as e.g. commodes, and, also because of their higher originality, have a high rarityToday, these pieces are some of the hardest to find furniture from this period.
