About this item

A Younger described this lovely table as being serving/hall/writing table and cleverly also made a version with mirrors to be used as a small dressing table . Very few people bought such tables back in the 1960s , and at this time the only people making them in a contemporary style were A Younger and Archie Shine . G Plan produced an Italian style hall table in the late 1950s , and again in the early 1970s . It’s quite a while since we last managed to find one , so even though this one had been stained a darker colour we bought it . The stain soon was removed and the table oiled so it now looks as it would have done when new in the late 1960s . There are no obvious marks or scratches , just the very small minor signs of wear that you have to expect after some 50 years of use . The Sequence range of sideboards and bedroom furniture was introduced in 1968 to rationalise the designs of this premium British maker at a time when taxes for higher earners were rising . It was designed by John Herbert and Alan Pledge and was in production from 1968 and into the early 1970s . We regularly get the sideboards , dining tables and chairs , but see less of the bedroom furniture as more people were then fitting wardrobes rather than buying freestanding pieces .
