About this item

Attributed to Russel Wright American Modern Secretaire from the 1930s made by Snyder's in Canada. Ingenious, Minimalist secretaire made of honey colored maple wood with a fold-up lid, a pull-out writing desk and 3 large drawers. Delightful, lovingly restored and in good condition. This and other pieces by Wright in the 1930s gave birth to the term "American Modern", a style rooted in the simplistic forms found within traditional American artisansry such as the Shakers combined with the burgeoning modernism of the time, especially influences from Bauhaus and other movements from across the pond. Unique in it's form and pedigree and the fact this piece was produced by Snyder's and not Conant Ball. We have yet to find a definitive link between Snyder's and Russel Wright, therefore we have taken the precautionary step of using "attributed to" in the title, despite the design being unmistakably Russel Wright. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor signs of use and age.
