About this item

This is a mahogany secretaire cabinet dating to the latter part of the C18th Century, c. 1780.

An attractive and functional piece of furniture it offers an upper secretaire, drop front drawer above a twin door cupboard enclosing a multi-positional sliding tray, riding upon bracket feet.

Displaying fine English cabinet work in beautifully figured light mahogany the top is framed by rails of boxwood stringing enclosing walnut inlay and an outer cross band of mahogany. To the centre an inlaid conche motif dresses a central cartouche.

The twin, field panel doors display first class cabinetry with quartered veneer work and shaped railed inlays frame central 'vase' panel work. A working lock and key closes the cabinet doors, inset brass lock escutcheons have been fitted to both doors for symmetry – a sign of real quality.

The secretaire desk drawer offers a solid and stable writing surface complete with blue baize finish. The desk storage replete with multiple drawers, cubbies and cupboards dressed with bone handles.

Superb quality featuring fine patina throughout it is presented in good antique condition. Solid joints and construction. Delivered waxed & polished ready for the home.
