Antique display case styles

Choose an antique display cabinet from George III’s reign in the 18th century up to Queen Victoria’s industrial revolution age that ended in 1901. Marvel at the development of furniture design. In the 1700s, display cabinets were dainty, delicate, and relatively simple in design. Lines were clean, display areas were boxy, and the preferred wood was often mahogany. Over in France, Parisian cabinet makers were experimenting with satinwood and marquetry finishes to add interest to each piece that made it into a chateau.

The 19th century saw an explosion of creativity. Ornate flourishes, floral carvings, cabriole legs, and inlay became common. Curves became the norm and the well-to-do craved more display space for their polished silverware, porcelain and trinkets.

Why buy an antique display cabinet?

The sheer choice of style can be mind-boggling. With hundreds to choose from, it can be tricky to know where to start. Use our handy filter menu to the side to select by size, period, material, budget and more to hone your bespoke collection.

For a real sense of social history, repurpose a cabinet that once had another use. Antique shop display cabinets are big and bold. Often they still retain some advertising writing in gold scroll font to add character to the piece. Apothecary and haberdashery cabinets with glazed fronts are quirkier choices for those who want their furniture to tell a story. Alternatively, tap into a Louis XVI revival piece and welcome an elegant French display cabinet into your home.
