About this item

This rare and beautiful elm 'wanli'cabinet is an exceptional piece of furniture with the bottom apron detailed by open carvings of flowers around two deer and a central lingzi mushroom - symbols for wealth, rank and longevity.

The wanli cabinet was named after WanLi period in Ming Dynasty - when this type of cabinet was invented with a lower storage section with doors and an open display shelf above, which in this case is framed with intricate relief carvings, beautifully showing scrolling leaves, gourds and butterflies. Inside houses two narrow drawers and a removable middle shelf and central post to create a much larger space if required.

The brass circular plates on the doors are original, though the four hinges show evidence that they may have been replaced over time.

This stunning cabinet which will make a delightful statement piece in any large living area and will certainly be a conversation started amongst visitors.
