About this item

This snuffbox is very typical from the Alps Folk Art. In the mountains area during very harsh winter times, ladies used to make these types of finely carved snuff boxes using a metal pastry cutting wheel. The birch bark is drawn together by little notches and then incised all around with little decorative lozenges.
A tiny leather tie on the lid gives the name to this characteristic "rat's tail" snuffboxes.
