This is a lovely antique English inlaid flame mahogany triple wardrobe, circa 1880 in date.

It has been accomplished in the most beautiful 'flame mahogany' with fabulous satinwood banding and superb inlaid decoration comprising ribbon tied laurel swags and wreaths.

The wardrobe has a central mirrored door flanked on either side by a cupboard over a bank of four graduated drawers. The central cupboard with ample space for hanging your clothes with a shelf above the original brass rail The cupboards on each side each with two shelves.

The beautiful brass handles and locks are all original and of the highest quality, and the quality of the inlaid decoration is superb.

With working locks and keys.

This lovely piece represents a fantastic example of late Victorian cabinetry at its finest.

Flame Mahogany
Thomas Sheraton - 18th century furniture designer, once characterized mahogany as "best suited to furniture where strength is demanded as well as a wood that works up easily, has a beautiful figure and polishes so well that it is an ornament to any room in which it may be placed." Matching his words to his work, Sheraton designed much mahogany furniture. The qualities that impressed Sheraton are particularly evident in a distinctive pattern of wood called "flame mahogany."

The flame figure in the wood is revealed by slicing through the face of the branch at the point where it joins another element of the tree.
