About this item

The iconic British furniture brand 'Ercol' is not only famous for its blend of quality craftsmanship but for their stylish designs also. Since 1920, this family business has produced hand-crafted furniture that has certainly stood the test of time, and has become more than just a household name. Ercol is one of the few leading British post-war furniture manufacturers still in operation today.

Renowned for their innovation Ercol have been continually celebrated for their pioneering approach to furniture making and were market leaders for many of their most famous features and materials.

Ercol grabbed many a headline back in 1956 with the launch of its 355 Studio Couch. Being quoted in a publicity leaflet as "heavenly to look upon and heaven to lie on", the original catalogue had the following to say about the Studio Couch...

"An entirely new piece of furniture. This Studio Couch is large enough to be used as a settee for four persons, and has the advantage that the back can be taken off completely, the couch can then be used as a single bed. The backboard is of solid elm mounted on gracefully shaped beech supporting columns."

Featuring an attractive steam bent frame and consisting of tapered spindles and arched arm rests synonymous of the original Windsor range, this is a great statement piece of furniture perfect for any stylish home.

We have had the daybed professionally restored by the wonderful Wynn Griffiths and Tarr, and it is looking truly lovely once more. That being said as to be expected there are some markings and scratches mostly to the legs and front frame, all commensurate with age. (Please see photographs).

New Pirelli webbing has been fitted along with new thick foam, with upholstery in beautiful high quality 100% wool fabric by Moon, from their Melton range in a striking yellowy green, that is sympathetic in colour to the original Ercol range.

Measures approximately 206cm long, 80cm deep and 77cm tall with a seat height of 42.5cm.
