About this item

This fantastic looking pair of mid century armchairs were made in The Czech republic sometime in the 1950's.
This pair of chairs are cheaper because they have one or two issues.
Firstly there is quite a lot of fading and wear on the fabric (see pictures)
also on the side panels there are a couple Springs sticking through the fabric from the back spring system. This can all be put right by the upholsterer when they are re-covered.
(see picture 10).
All of this has been taken into consideration with the price.
If these issues don't bother you then these are cheap chairs. When I have these perfect I sell them for £800 for the pair.
The rest of the chairs are sound and in good condition they are strong the springs are good there is no woodworm, repairs or damage and the arms are a nice mid/dark wood colour so if you are looking for a pair of chairs to put your own mark on and recover in your own fabric these would be ideal.
Jindrich Halabala was a professor of design and architecture in Prague and was a giant in European furniture design in the 1930s and 40s.
He strived to produce attractive looking furniture that was high quality and well made and he pioneered a technique and designed the machinery to bend large pieces of wood using steam and rollers. He was a designer rather than a manufacturer there were three or four companies which made these chairs across the Czech republic.
This particular model is one of the most popular styles I buy, I can never find enough of them in this good condition to supply the demand.
They are a fantastic looking pair of chairs which ever angle you look at them from, the outstanding design feature of these chairs is the use of one single
large piece of bentwood to make up the Long hope that makes up there arm.... this is the only design of chair that I can think of that does this with one single length of bentwood.
They have a sprung seat with 30 springs so they are very comfortable.
As they are at the moment, the chairs are solid and strong there is no woodworm or repairs they are a perfect candidate to be recovered and restored.
The material is the only real issue and a little bit of wear on sides and Back.
The spring system is good the chairs are solid.
please check all the pictures carefully.
