We asked her about why she took this route into restoring furniture and the ups and downs of life as a vintage dealer!<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>I became a vintage furniture dealer because\u2026.<\/strong> I was an interior designer for ten years and had customised my own furniture for many years prior to this.&nbsp; I couldn\u2019t always source for a client what I was looking for although I knew exactly what I wanted \u201cin my head\u201d. I also felt that although mass produced furniture has its place in the market, I wanted to salvage good quality furniture that people had fallen out of love with and give it a whole new lease of life. <\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More recently my father Mike Castree, who is a recently retired accountant, was looking for a new venture. We decided that a common bond which linked us together was our flair for design in homes and furnishings and our appreciation of \u201csomething a little bit different&#8221;.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8211; The designs which inspire me the most are\u2026<\/strong> those which are inspired my surroundings, things I have seen in everyday life and it just goes in to my memory bank&nbsp; I then interoperate it&nbsp; into a piece of furniture.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vinterioruk.wpcomstaging.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/large_vintage-yellow-large-console-table.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-84919\"\/><figcaption><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vinterior.co\/furniture\/tables\/consoles\/circa-1900-s-baulster-yellow-vintage-console-table?utm_expid=.kvAdusUrTRa179aBDq7pyw.0&amp;utm_referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.vinterior.co%2Fadmin%2Fusers%2F3983%2Flistings%2F&amp;utm_source=vinteriorblog&amp;utm_medium=blog&amp;utm_campaign=revivedandrestored\">Baluster console table circa 1900<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8211; My favourite piece\u2026<\/strong> was our larder\/pantry which we sold on Vinterior. This was a labour of love, it was constructed from a good quality wardrobe (although it was broken when we bought it at auction) our carpenter customised if from my designs, it was our largest and most expensive piece to date.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8211; When sourcing furniture, I look for\u2026<\/strong> its shape.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8211; The best thing about vintage furniture is\u2026<\/strong> the quality, it is so much heavier and sturdier than modern mass produced furniture and has its own individuality.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8211; The most challenging aspect of life as a furniture dealer is\u2026<\/strong> storage! We are just about to extend our workshop which is a purpose built stable in a two acre field, to store much more furniture to customise and to ensure that our processes are run more efficiently. <\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8211; One thing that really inspires me is<\/strong>\u2026 a calming environment, the countryside where I live and work.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vinterioruk.wpcomstaging.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/large_sel-de-mer-20th-century-two-door-panelled-solid-pine-wardrobe-a9ff33ee-fe83-48a0-869a-76052f35d510.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-84923\"\/><figcaption><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vinterior.co\/furniture\/storage\/wardrobes\/vintage-white-20th-century-two-door-panelled-solid-pine-wardrobe?utm_expid=.kvAdusUrTRa179aBDq7pyw.0&amp;utm_referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.vinterior.co%2Fsearch%3Fq%3D%26idx%3DListing_production%26p%3D0%26dFR%255Bsold%255D%255B0%255D%3Dfalse%26dFR%255Buser_slug%255D%255B0%255D%3D52825726-dce5-48ae-8550-b18eef155a47&amp;utm_source=vinteriorblog&amp;utm_medium=blog&amp;utm_campaign=revivedandrestored\">White 20th Century Two Door Panelled Solid Pine Wardrobe<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8211; A perfect day off would look like\u2026<\/strong> a spa day, whilst being pampered, I would be taking in the surroundings too, as I just can\u2019t help it!<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8211; A cause close to my heart is\u2026<\/strong> is Samaritans, as I worked there as a volunteer. I like helping people, it\u2019s in my nature.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8211; I would have a beer\/coffee with\u2026 <\/strong>George Clarke, as I love his enthusiasm for getting the most out of a small space.
