About this item

'Universe of Triangles' oil on soft board (c. 1950s) by Unknown Artist. This small German geometric abstract work from the city of Berlin dates from the era just after World War II. Alas, the artist remains unknown. It is a mathematician's abstract dream of Isosceles, scalene, equilateral, acute and obtuse triangles lying in orbit around a perfect red circle. Appearing on a night-sky blue background are these dozens of triangles - triangles within triangles - of every shape and colour. The artwork seems somewhat primitive or naive but compelling at the same time. In very good vintage condition commensurate with age. In original frame, glazed. A mark, whose meaning is unknown, is written discreetly on the lower front of the painting: 'MRV 168'.
