About this item

Vintage, early to mid 20th century, deity mask. Tibetan or Nepalese in origin and depicting Bhairava, the fierce manifestation of the Hindu deity, Shiva - it is indeed a fierce looking creature, with fangs and protruding tongue. It is made from sheet brass and elaborately decorated with enamel bead work and semi-precious stones. A wonderfully ornate and intricately detailed unique piece of art!

In fair vintage condition with a generally aged appearance to the metal work, and quite minor loss and damage to the stones and bead work. The mask edges are a little misshaped and the metal wire which forms the edge of the mask has come away from the lower left side and to the top of the right ear - it is all still present and in a stable condition. There is a little integral hook to the top of the mask for easy hanging.
